Well Connected

This redevelopment project for Canada’s pre-eminent academic and ambulatory hospital was completed in two phases on the hospital’s current site on Grenville Street, maintaining operation of the existing hospital.

Complete IP convergence was achieved by using the single common network for IP transport for all IP devices in the facility including healthcare, administration, security, telephony and base building FM systems such as mechanical and electrical systems.

High Availability was achieved by a diverse path fiber optic cable riser allowing each network switch stack to be connected to dual core switches.

“One network to rule them all.”

High Bandwidth:

Link aggregations were used to provide 2x10Gbps connectivity to each network switch stack.  High speed desktop connectivity was provided by 1Gbps POE connections to each device.  High speed wireless connectivity was achieved through a 3x3 MIMO 802.11n wireless LAN infrastructure providing complete coverage throughout the facility.

Extensive system integration was required.

A key challenge was the provision of a single converged network over which all IP devices could communicate.  Extensive system integration was performed to determine each system’s specific requirements, to configure VLANs and network architecture and facilitate cross-systems communications to achieve system integration objectives.
