Across the architectural, engineering and construction community, Myron will be remembered as an exceptional engineer, a devoted leader and mentor.
Myron Washchyshyn, P. Eng., joined Mulvey & Banani on March 25, 1985 shortly after the amalgamation of “Mulvey Engineering” and “A .H. Banani and Associates” in 1981 . He became president in 1989, and accomplished quite a lot in his 19 year tenure. Key highlights include the development of the firm’s specialty engineering divisions, the expansion into Western Canada, the launch into international work (including China, US, and the Caribbean), and participation in high profile projects like the Toronto Pearson International Airport New Terminal 1, Fallsview Casino & Resort, and the new Mississauga City Hall.
Current President Domenic Bonavota vividly remembers being interviewed by Myron. “He was my introduction to Mulvey & Banani – to say that I was impressed is an understatement – his passion for engineering was evident from the moment I met him, and he shared that with us each and every day.” Bob Lymer, Director, finds he still shares Myron’s words of wisdom with staff. “During the 21 years I worked with him, Myron always found the time to mentor and inspire me.”
Many prestigious awards were awarded to the firm under Myron’s time as President, including the “Significant Achievement in the Design of Power & Communication Systems” (awarded by Intelligent Buildings Institute in Washington, DC) for the IBM Building in Markham (1989); and the “Best Global Airport” for the Toronto Pearson International Airport- New Terminal 1 (2006). Myron also oversaw the formal launch of the Security, Lighting Design and Audio Visual Design divisions in 1997, 2005 and 2007 respectively.
Myron stepped down as President in September 2008, and retired three years later. “He was greatly missed in the years to follow by the broad clientele he had helped to cultivate with his impressive boardroom presence” recalls Joe Berardi, Director, “he was a great mentor, a great leader.” Myron was quite elated to learn several years into retirement that the Canadian Museum of Human Rights, a project he had begun prior to his retirement was to be featured on the new $10 bank note.
The Canadian Museum of Human Rights project was just one of many legendary projects in a long list of successes that have stood the test of time – BRAVO! Myron, your legacy lives on.
