Project Description
This 45,280 square foot destination casino houses a range of amenities: gaming floor, bars, dining, and live performance space. The design team’s task was to create a different atmosphere for each area that is warm and welcoming, yet satisfies the venue’s enhanced security requirements, and relate each part to the whole with a fresh, cohesive branding.
The exterior lighting design jump starts the visitor experience- vibrant, colour-changing linear façade lights were strategically placed to reflect in the glazing, amplifying their length. Additional short segments of the same were added to columns to accentuate the entrance. Immersive DMX colour-changing programming was also used for the exterior façade, ranging in programming complexity that will draw on variables like season, feature shows, and time of day.
Inside the gaming floor itself was fitted out with a combination of track heads and adjustable gimbal recessed downlights to comply with security requirements: high and uniform vertical luminance, non-flicker, adequate camera-to-lighting-to-patron ratios at all required camera angles. Additionally, high ceilings added a level of complexity to this equation. The luminaire specifications used tiers of colour temperature correlating with the specific area functions and a full menu of trim finishes to suit the interior’s animated palette of custom ceiling finishes and details.
A fully automated (hands- off) lighting control system (interior and exterior) allow the staff to stay focused on hospitality (manual override capabilities were included). Each area/zone can be controlled individually. With a target efficacy of 100lm/w, all luminaries used are in accordance with ASHREA and the entire project is either LED integral or retrofit LED Edison style lamps.
Within a modest budget and a relatively short time frame, the design team was able to bring substance and style to this venue that will serve the community for years to come.
